Snowboarding
By Shawn Cahill, Pro Rider & Golf & Ski Sales Associate
I started snowboarding when I was in 7th grade, and entered my first snowboarding
competition at 15. I grew up riding at Stowe, one of the best mountains on the east
coast. Come January, I will have been at Golf & Ski for two years, and this winter
our selection of snowboard equipment, clothing and accessories is definitely the
best it’s ever been. I’ve really enjoyed advising Golf & Ski on what to carry, using
my pro riding experience and insider knowledge to add five new companies this
year to give kids what they really want.
Snowboarding technology has gotten really high tech and sophisticated. A lot of
carbon composites are now being used in snowboards, the same materials used in army helicopter blades.
This means boards are getting lighter than ever, while being just as rigid and strong as they should be for top
performance.
Snowboard boots, really bulky back when I started riding, now use much less volume, fit better, and are stiffer and
more supportive. Bindings, too, are lighter and take up less space, so you get better feedback and response when
riding. And helmets are stronger and more comfortable, so make sure you’re wearing one. I always do.
All we need now for great riding is that fluffy white stuff. Meantime, come see us for the best snowboarding
selection and expert advice around.
This winter, Golf & Ski will be sponsoring Shawn in big air contests, slope style contests, and border cross
events throughout the northeast. Follow his results on our website, and check out his action photos at
