TaylorMade MG3 Wedges

TM-MG3

When it comes to wedges, most golfers think of Vokey and Cleveland as the premier brands, with Callaway close on their heels.

But we’re here to tell you that TaylorMade has recently broken through in the wedge category—thanks to their new TaylorMade MG3 wedges.

TaylorMade originally entered the wedge conversation with its MG2 wedge line.

But the new TaylorMade MG3 wedges have reached a new level and are now finding their way in more and more golfers’ bags.

If you’re looking for a wedge with plenty of spin—and the performance and precision that comes with it—you need to take a close look the new TaylorMade MG3 wedges.

Taylor Made MG3 Wedge Design

The new TaylorMade MG3 wedges pair clean lines with TaylorMade’s RAW Face and Milled Grind technologies.

These technologies combine to deliver what TaylorMade calls ‘the spin cycle’—the most crucial component in a wedge for the average golfer.

It has also unlocked access to the thinnest face in TaylorMade P•790 history and allowed for the creation of an intelligent sweet spot.

The Spin Story

The TaylorMade MG3 wedge spin story starts with its patented RAW Face technology.

It is designed for increased spin and feel with sharper, narrower and deeper grooves in the face, along with laser etched precision.

The RAW Face rusts over time, which preserves spin properties.

Many golfers believe that rust adds spin. But it’s not that rust creates spin. It’s that the lack of finish means there’s nothing applied over the grooves that can mess with their intended geometry.

They continue to perform as designed for the life of the wedge.

Raised Micro-Ribs

What’s new and different on the TaylorMade MG3 wedges is the addition of raised micro-ribs. These grooves between grooves are there to boost spin on those little touch shots around the green from 40 yards and in.

According to TaylorMade, the grooves can add up to 200 rpm of spin—no small accomplishment for that distance shot.

Milled Grind

Like the MG2 wedges, the TaylorMade MG3 wedges have a Milled Grind to ensure precision where it matters most.

This process maximizes consistency when crafting each sole for repeatable performance and turf interaction.

The Casting Material of Choice

It’s worth noting that the TaylorMade MG3 wedge is cast from 8620 steel.

This is the casting material of choice to maintain relatively soft feel with good durability without moving to a forged head.

And durability is a big deal for maintaining the integrity of wedge grooves.

Thick-Thin Design & Some Subtle Tweaks

TaylorMade has redistributed the mass in the new MG3 wedges to optimize the CG location for more precise flight and an enhanced feel.

Other, more subtle changes, include a request from Tommy Fleetwood to lower the first groove closer to the leading edge.

You might not notice it…and you might not notice the changes to the toe shaping or the improved hosel transitions, either.

These are not huge performance tweaks, but they do improve the lines and make the MG3 look less like a standalone club and more of a part of your iron set.

Overall, the MG3 wedges have a modern and minimalistic look to go along with the exceptional spin performance—a great total package.

Loft, Bounce & Grind Options

The new TaylorMade MG3 wedges comes with low-, mid- and high-bounce options as well as the Tiger Grind.

Bounce can be confusing, so here’s a simple explanation: a low bounce offers very little resistance to turf. It goes in and out with ease.

A high bounce wedge offers up to 20% more resistance. It’s not that it won’t dig… it just won’t dig as easily.

The TaylorMade MG3 low bounce wedges work well with shallow attack angles and tight lies. They’re available in 56, 58 and 60 degree lofts.

The standard bounce MG3 wedges  (50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60 degrees) are the middle of the road—playable for most options. These will be the best fit for many golfers.

The high bounce MG3 is available in 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60 degrees. All three bounce families are available in both a chrome and black finish.

TaylorMade has also tweaked the sole geometry to put more of the sole in play. It is 1mm wider, has a bit more camber and more trailing edge relief for greater versatility around the green.
